HISTORY
MARKS ON GENESIS
In the last decade of the eighteenth century (1890) a LORD was born, Zefanias Chivambo, from
Massinga district in Inhambane, who became a Christian, and married for the Church United
Methodist in Mozambique, at the Cambine mission in Morrumbene, province of Inhambane. Like
many other young people from then he worked in South Africa, and soon left, returning to
Massinga, where he invested his income in acquisition of several properties. He did developed
extensive areas planting coconut trees, cashew trees and sugar cane, and implemented a
artisanal industry of brandy production from sugar cane and cashew, and that earned him
recognition for his work culture and vision for the entrepreneurship, at that time when native
Mozambicans had serious limitation.
The austerity of this LORD left marks still prominent in the 21st century, being a living inspiration
to their parents and beyond. That was how he educated his children, of which Manuel Zefanias
Chivambo, his older son, which although in a period when the colonial government limited the
education of native Mozambicans, educated him in Christian mission schools of Cambine and
Inhamussua, and later in formal training centers in the city of Beira and Tete. He obtained
several degrees and training. With the death of the LORD, his son Manuel and wife Arminda had
the arduous task of educate their numerous siblings, and their own children, following the same
work culture and entrepreneurship with a Christian education and training pillar academic.
Already grown and with a university degree, inspired by the values instilled by the parents,
enlightened by the designs of the independent state and in the international gifts that his
profession offers him, the grandchildren Cula and wife Gilda, who lived in Maputo, made the
decision to tone the entrepreneurial spirit of family in their homeland, Inhambene. In this way, the
Culla Lodge accommodation space was created, whose designation was inspired in the name
Cula, from the mentors, which means to grow. The Culla Lodge aims to be a place of stay with
